Never mind The little boy who cries “Wolf!”: what about the old blogger who shouts “Crocodile!” twice? In the last blog (May 20th), the crocodile in question was merely a collective noun for schoolchildren. This time it’s a real crocodile.

Well, alright, it’s a real stone crocodile. Kindly donated by Jo, Friend and Gardener, he has been tastefully painted...crocodile green. (what did you expect? Racing green? It’s going nowhere, trust us). A hand-crafted creek made for his delectation, he’s swimming, semi-submerged, secure in the blue-painted mortar. He says he is very happy there and not at all mortified. His home has, of course, been made part of the Tropical garden, amongst the Elephants ears (bergenia) and the Zebra grass (miscanthus sinensis).
For obvious reasons, there’s a notice ‘PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE CROCODILE’,
indicating that, for the same reason, infants of a tender age should keep away.

It will, we hope amuse, and prove an exception to the traditional song,
‘Never smile at a crocodile’.
