Your Very Own, ‘Stairway to Heaven’

One of the gardens which the ‘Friends’ have created around Coy Pond has been given the title of ‘Stairway to Heaven’.

The excuse for this was that, on a steeply sloping site, a series of log steps led ever upwards. Or at least as far as a ‘Tree of Heaven’.

The blog dated 14/6/25 explains that the name was originally given to the installation of a highly modified ladder, to be found in the garden of one of the volunteers.
There is now a copy of the original joke at the apex of the garden in Coy Pond.
There is a free-standing ladder, made by cutting angles at 45° into a wooden ladder, and re-assembling, so that it zigzags upwards to the sky, here represented by a white fluffy cloud carefully cut from a sheet of hardboard.
The earlier reference to the Led Zeppelin song is already reflected on the garden notice.
The label for the 'Tree of Heaven' was installed during February, and planted up to integrate with the rest of the garden. Added to the label is the following explanatory ditty:
Behold the ladder, zigzagging to the sky,
See cloud atop (it’s easy if you try).
The garden’s name, it’s there to illustrate
So look. Not touch (or face a grisly fate).
The volunteer gardeners hope to resume their care of the gardens in March. Weather (flooding) permitting!
